Earl “Wayne” Bishop, 99, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at home.
Wayne was born May 20, 1920 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Noah and Bertha (Ford) Bishop; he attended and graduated from Field Kinley High School in Coffeyville. Wayne married Violet Faye Mann on December 24, 1939 in Coffeyville, Kansas the couple made their home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Wayne was employed by Carlton Hall Dairy, W B Mann Construction; Wayne then started his own construction business Bishop Construction Company, Quality Homes and Remodeling and built numerous homes in and around Coffeyville as well as the Bishop Apartments. Following his retirement from his construction company Wayne was employed as the Building Inspector for the City of Coffeyville, Kansas and then he became Vice President of Construction for Medicalodges where he received his pilot’s license and flew to different job sites.
In his younger years Wayne enjoyed square dancing with Faye. Always a favorite for Wayne and Faye were family gathering and time with friends. Wayne also enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, fishing, gardening, working on the family ranch and traveling in the motorhome with the Good Sam Honeybees group. After retirement Wayne enjoyed Golf and he was always helping someone with a project and will be remembered as the fix-it-man.
Wayne served in the National Guard in the 114th Cavalry from December 19, 1938 to October 1, 1940. Wayne was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was also active in the Westernaires Saddle Club, Circle C Saddle Club; He was a Charter Member of the Good Sam Travel Club Honeybee Chapter and served as President and Wagon master.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Faye, brother Don Bishop, two sisters, Joyce Holst and Cleda Suggs, son Billy Wayne Bishop and granddaughter, Darla Renee Hawthorne. Those left to honor his memory include one son, Merrill Bishop, Coffeyville, Kansas; one daughter, Darlene Bishop Donahue, rural Independence, Kansas; three granddaughters, Sherri Stotts, Caney, Kansas; Chantel ( Justin) Wilson, Owasso, Oklahoma; Tina (Mark) Wadzeck, Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Cashius ( Kirsten) Stotts, Caney, Kansas, Brandon Hawthorne, McKinney, Texas; Macy Wilson, Braylin Wilson, and Dakota (Meaghan) Wilson, all of Owasso, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 2 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1001 W. 8th St., Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Lee Passwater will be officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the register on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 9 to 5 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. The family has requested memorial contributions be made payable to Trinity United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the chapel.
