Earl Jean Critchfield, 79, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Earl was born December 2, 1928 in Florence, Kansas to Justus and Mary Griffith Critchfield. He was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp from 1948 1952. He served aboard three aircraft carriers in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean areas. On March 23, 1950 he married DoloresDee Tuttle in Cherryvale, Kansas. Earl and Dee have lived in Bakersfield, California; Salina, Wichita, Independence, and Cherryvale, Kansas. They made their home in Coffeyville in 1958. Earl was a self-employed carpenter. His company was known as Critchfield Construction. Earl built and also remodeled several homes and businesses in the Coffeyville community. Memberships include the First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge AF amp; AM 102, Fort Scott Consistory, Mirza Shrine, VFW Post 1022 and Southeast Kansas Hillbillies. Earl was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors working in the garden. Survivors include: His wife, DoloresDee Critchfield of the home in Coffeyville; a son, Larry Critchfield and wife, Janet of Winslow, Arkansas; two daughters, Mary Fogel and husband, Dan of Richardson, Texas and Cathy Boston and husband, Ed of Blue Springs, Missouri; 8 grandchildren: Brandon and Robin Pursley, Brian and John Dennis, Erica Bailey, Poppi Landers, and Jake and Addison Fogel; five great grandchildren, Chris, Cydnee, Chloee, Rylan Jo and Zoe; two brothers, Lee Critchfield of Van Nuys, California and Douglas Critchfield of Coffeyville; and one sister, Doris Quintero of San Diego, California. His parents, one sister, Thelma Nevestich, and one brother, Herschel Critchfield, preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, 2405 Woodland Ave, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Masonic Garden. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27th at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church, the Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home.
