Earl RichardDick Green, First Sergeant, US Army Retired formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas, died on Thursday, 29 September, at a hospital in Bartlesville, OK. He is survived by his daughter, Colonel Karen Seipp, US Army Retired and her husband John Seipp, of San Antonio, TX son Richard Green of Bartlesville, OK grandsons, Mark Seipp of Littleton, CO Dr John Green and his wife Melody of Blue Springs, MO Joe Green and his wife Adrea of Broken Arrow, OK and greatgrandchildren, Ayden and Elora Seipp of Littleton, CO Amber, Bella, and Christian Green of Blue Springs, MO and Cannon Green of Broken Arrow, OK. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Earl H. Green, sister Shirley Jean Green, mother LeVetaDutch Green Comstock, stepfather HarryHuck Comstock, his wife Doris Jean Green and three tiny sons who died at birth. Dick was born and lived most of his life in Coffeyville, KS. After graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School, he joined the US Army. His twentyyear career began with the Korean War and ended with the Viet Nam War. On 1 Sep 1950, as a young private in Korea, Company G, 2d Battalion of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Division, was cut off by a North Korean attack. Dick was one of forty survivors of the attack. He survived several other close calls to return to the United States as a twentyyearold Master Sergeant, promoted on the Navy ship heading for home. After Basic Training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, Dick Green served at several Army posts, including Ft Riley, KS, where he was the light heavyweight boxing champion Atlanta General Depot USAREUR Signal School Ansbach, Germany Ft Leonard Wood, MO Seoul, South Korea Ft Gordon, GA Mannheim, Germany and Pleiku, Viet Nam. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge Bronze Star withV for valor and two oak leaf clusters Good Conduct Medal, 5 awards National Defense Service Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster Korean Service Medal with 6 campaign stars Viet Nam Service Medal Viet Nam Campaign Medal United Nations Service Medal as well as the Presidential Unit Citation. After his Army career, Dick worked at Coffeyville Cable for many years and then at Thompson Brothers until his final retirement. He enjoyed his return to Coffeyville, renewing old friendships and treasuring time with family. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed skeet shooting and fishing. He and Doris loved the many pets who shared their lives over the years. He was Doris caregiver in her final years, enabling her to remain at home until her death in 2007. Only recently he moved to Bartlesville to make his home with his son Richard. Our family would like to thank Dr. Allen Gillis of Coffeyville, Dr. Gary Dykstra of Bartlesville and the staffs of Jane Phillips Medical Center for their excellent care of our father. In lieu of flowers, his children request donations in his memory to the Fisher House Foundation, which supports wounded warriors and their families, or the charity of their choice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Chaplin Mike Graham will officiate. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may call on Monday, October 3, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at the funeral home. The family will greet friends Monday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
