Edith Lucille Williams Cassity, 89, of Caney, Kansas, passed away May 25, 2008 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Edith was born on April 11, 1919 in Caney, the daughter of Roy and Minnie Mae Hudson Williams. She grew up and attended school in Caney where she also attended the Church of the Nazarene for most of her life. She married Claud Clinton Cassity at Dewey, Oklahoma on January 11, 1937. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1971. Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Larry Cassity and wife, Carole of Casa Grande, Arizona, Ronald Cassity and wife, Joan of Casa Grande, Arizona, Diana Garton of Tyro, Kansas, Douglas Cassity of San Antonio, Texas and Janice Novotny and husband, Jeff of Thayer, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosella Gordon of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Grace Ayers of Caney, Kansas. Edith was also preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Beth Cassity on November 23, 1945 and her siblings, Agnes Hildabrandt, Lennie Williams, and Lue Otteson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville, Kansas. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas. Friends may call on Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening.
