Edward August Kersting, Jr., 92, of Coffeyville, went to his eternal home in Heaven on March 26, 2012, after passing at Medicalodges Coffeyville. Edward was born July 13, 1919, in Marysville, Kansas, to Edward August and Hilda Amelia Kile Kersting. He attended school in Marysville, Kansas, through the eighth grade. He worked various jobs in Marysville and Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Beatrice, Nebraska, where he worked for a glass company and served in the National Guard. He then returned to Wichita, Kansas, and worked in the aircraft industry. In 1945 while visiting his mother in a hospital In Topeka, he met Beverly Pierson. They were married June 30, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas but lived in Wichita following their marriage. The couple moved to Coffeyville in 1956. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church where Edward served as a Deacon and Elder of the church for many years and assisted with the Boy Scout Troup that met at the church. Edward worked for Fourth Street IGA and Elmores IGA for 26 years beginning as a produce worker and stocker. He later was responsible for ordering all of the grocery items sold in the store. His favorite hobby was fishing. After retiring, his wife, Beverly, suffered from Alzheimers or a related dementia for over 10 years. Edward cared for her at their home for nine years. After Beverly became a resident at Medicalodges Coffeyville, Edward resided with her at the nursing home for a year and a half before Beverly passed away in May, 2004. Edward resided at the nursing home for a total of 9 years and treasured the friends he made there. Survivors include two daughters and sonsinlaw Arlene and Gary Cox of Lyndon, Kansas and Marlene and Ron Bachman of Coffeyville, Kansas and six grandsons, Kevin wife, Jamie, John, Michael, and Ross Cox and Brian and Mark Bachman. Edward also has one great granddaughter, Ashley Cox, the daughter of Michael Cox. Edward was preceded in death by his parents one sister, Ethel Kersting one nephew, James Kersting and one sisterinlaw, Marjorie Huhs. Friends may call at the PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel on Thursday, March 29, from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Edward Kersting will be cremated following the viewing. The family will hold a private funeral service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, the Coffeyville Friends of Animals, or the Medicalodges Coffeyville Resident Activity Fund. The memorial gifts may be left at the funeral home.
