Rural Caney resident Effie Alice Ranes died at her home on Tuesday, November 14, 2006. She was 75. Alice was born on June 1, 1931 in Coffeyville to Henry Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Roberts La Forte. She grew up and attended schools in Coffeyville. She had worked as a waitress and most recently, a cashier at Kamp;S Oil Co. Alice is survived by sons Jerry Ranes of Caney and Glen Ranes of Killeen, TX; daughters Carla Lesslie of Delaware, OK., Pauline Caouette and Patricia Lopez of Caney, Laura Winter of Glendale, AZ., Luanna Merritt of Topeka, KS,; brothers, Wilfred and Gordon LaForte both of Coffeyville; sisters, Beatrice Cox of Claremore, OK., and Sharon Coons of Coffeyville. There are 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2006 in the Robbins Cemetery West of Coffeyville. Chaplain Mike Graham from Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday, November 16, 2006 from 9 AM until 9 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday evening.
