Eldon Lester Kastler, age 91, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Tyro Christian Church with the Evangelist David Bycroft officiating under the direction of the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorials Hospice or the Windsor Place and contributions may be left at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.
Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday, April 17th, and 18th or may leave online condolences at www.fordwulfbrunsfuneralhome.com.
Eldon was born August 26, 1921 in Valeda, Kansas to Lester Jon and Lela Frances Mason Kastler. He grew up in the Valeda, Tyro area and graduated from the Tyro High School. Eldon also graduated from the Teachers College at Pittsburg State University.
On April 14, 1940 Eldon married Julia Marie Bronnenberg in Chetopa, Kansas. The couple made their home in Tyro and Pittsburg before moving to the Kansas City area. On May 31, 1944 Eldon entered the United States Marines and served during World War II until his honorable discharge on February 5, 1946. Eldon was a teacher and coach at Hickory Grove Elementary School before becoming a Principal at several elementary schools in the Shawnee Mission School District. In 1990 the couple moved back to Coffeyville, Kansas and in 1998 moved to the farm in Tyro, Kansas. Julia preceded Eldon in death on March 5, 2005. Eldon was a member of the Lions Club, Coffeyville American Legion, the night writers and the Tyro Christian Church.
Survivors include one son Larry Jon and wife Barbara Kastler, one daughter Kathryn Sue Sutton, eight grandchildren Kim Niedzwiecki, Sherri Conley, Julie Wilmore, Brent Kastler, Stephanie Zimmerman, David Sutton, Lesa Davis and Lena Sutton 17 great grandchildren Jon Niedzwiecki, Kyle Niedzwiecki, Andy Conley, Evan Conley, Heather Ogle, Jessica Ogle, Mikala Kirk, Sarah Sutton, Joe Sutton, Taryn Sutton, Taran Stringer, Alex Wilmore, Devin Wilmore, Laken Davis, Jacob Davis, Whitley Davis and Christopher Sutton 4 great great grandchildren Tanna Kirk, Rica Kirk, Sylvia Kirk and Keagan Maupin. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester Lela Kastler daughter Linda Kastler, soninlaw Michael D. Sutton, Grandsons Bruce C. Schow, Jr. and T. Michael Sutton one great granddaughter Sarah Davis and one brother Leonard Bud Clayton Kastler.
