Coffeyville resident Eleanor Elizabeth Evans entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 11, 2008 in Coffeyville. She was 90. Eleanor was born June 1, 1917 in Malta Bend, Missouri to Flavel and Laura Nash Yancey. She grew up and attended school in Marshall, Missouri and graduated from Marshall High School in 1935 and in 1936 she graduated from a business course at Mercy Academy in Marshall, Missouri. In 1937 she accepted a civil service appointment as a stenographer with the United States Civil Service Commission in Washington, DC. In 1940 she transferred to the Wage and Hour Division of the United States Department of Labor in Kansas City, Missouri. On October 15, 1940 she married H. Thomas Evans in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple made their home in several locations in Missouri and Illinois until they retired to Coffeyville where her husband had previously served as manager of the Bunge Grain Elevator in Coffeyville. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. Survivors include her son Robert Bob T. Evans of Phoenix, Arizona, a brother and sister-in-law Charles F. and Thelma Yancey of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces Mary Ann Reddy and husband Stephen of Kansas City, Missouri; Ann No Obituary Text Available and husband Kim of Corder, Missouri; two nephews Charles Yancey and wife Cheryl Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina and John Yancey of Dallas, Texas; a great-niece, Molly Joyce of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a first cousin, Ann Van Dyne and husband George from Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband H. Thomas Evans. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel in Coffeyville. Pastor J.E. Reynolds will officiate and burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, February 17, 2008 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm to sign the guest register. The family will receive friends on Monday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of other remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to the Coffeyville First Christian Church and these may be left with the funeral home. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Windsor Place Nursing Home who provided Eleanor with loving care and kindness for the past three years.
