Elizabeth K. Strickland Thurman age 79, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Sunday evening, February 20, 2005 at her home following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Thurman was born on June 6, 1925, in Plummerville, Arkansas to Henry and Pauline Hardiman Strickland. She moved to Coffeyville with her family in her early years, and attended Coffeyville schools. On March 16, 1948, she married Murray L. Thurman, who preceded her in death. She worked for several employers before retiring from cooking for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Thurman enjoyed crocheting, sewing and crafts. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeyville and the Jolly L Needle Club for 45 years. Mrs. Thurman is survived by: three daughters, Ruby L. Colbert, of Coffeyville, Kansas Sherry J. Everage, of Alton, Illinois Anitris Fullard, of Coffeyville, Kansas one brother, Earl Strickland, of Coffeyville, Kansas one sister, Laberta Jackson, of Coffeyville, Kansas seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren a host of nephews, nieces and special friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ollie and Willie Strickland. Graveside services will be 11 am, Saturday, February 26 in Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Danny Gaines will officiate. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel Friday, 8 am until 8 pm. Special messages to the family may be left at www.penwellgabel.com.
