Ella Lavina Blevens, 94, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Ella was born on December 17, 1917 in Labette County, Kansas the youngest daughter of Adam and Mollie Hughes Beair. She grew up there and graduated from McKennen School. On January 12, 1942 she was united in marriage to James H. Blevens in Oswego, Kansas. Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1940 and at the time of their marriage he was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Ella accompanied her husband to Camp Atterbury, Indiana and Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky working with the Civil Service at these camps. When Jim was deployed to the European Theater, landing on Omaha Beach June 19, 1944 Ella came to Coffeyville to be near family. Jim was discharged from the Army in 1945 at the end of World War II. Ella and Jim lived in Mission, Kansas many years where Jim worked as a senior draftsman for Panhandle Eastern Company in Kansas City, retiring in 1975. He preceded her in death July 13, 1979. About a year after her husbands death, Ella returned to Coffeyville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Aleathea Sunday School class and ABW Unity Circle. Ella was a gifted artist, a great cook, had a keen sense of humor, and loved to make people laugh. Surviving to honor her memory is a stepdaughter Peggy a stepgranddaughter Laura two stepgrandsons all of California, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Pastor Randall Terrill will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville these may be left with the funeral home.
