Elsie Golda Rowlands Post was born April 6, 1908, to Arthur Ward and Sophia Lucy Gillum Rowlands of Hartford, Kansas. She received her education in the Hartford Public Schools and at Emporia State Teachers College. She taught school in Lyon County until her marriage to Claud Bryan Post on June 3, 1928. They were employed in oil field work until 1933, when they moved to a farm west of Valeda, Kansas. Later the farm home east of Edna was purchased, and it was there they raised their family. Due to Mr. Posts failing health, they moved to Wichita in 1965, where she was associated with the School of Nursing for both the Winfield Memorial Hospital and Wesley Medical Center until 1972. At that time she came to Coffeyville as manager of the Dale Apartments, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Christian Church, Coffeyville, and teacher of the Queen Esther Class. During the years on the farm, she worked with the youth in 4H Clubs, the WTL Extension unit, and Farm Bureau. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Nettleton of Wichita, Kansas and Joan Shearhart Jay of Coffeyville 15 grandchildren 29 greatgrandchildren and 16 greatgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, her husband, a soninlaw, a grandson, and a greatgrandson. PenwellGabel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Family visitation will be Monday, January 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the PenwellGabel Chapel, Coffeyville. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, January 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the PenwellGabel Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Christian Church, Coffeyville or American Bible Society. Contributions may be left with the funeral home, or mailed to PenwellGabel Funeral Home, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
