Elsie Lee Simmons, 77, died on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Mrs. Simmons was born August 10, 1931 in Holdenville, OK to Walter P. and Myrtle A. Cathey McMillen. She and her family moved to Chelsea, OK, in 1932 where she attended school. On December 7, 1946, she married Claudie L. Simmons in Columbus, KS. They moved to Coffeyville in 1950 where Mr. Simmons was employed at the Co-op Refinery. He preceded his wife in death April 21, 1996. Mrs. Simmons was a member of the First Baptist Church, A.A.R.P., and the TOPS club. Survivors include: one daughter, Claudia Voelzke Jim of Coffeyville, and one son, Michael Simmons of Overland Park, KS; one granddaughter, Jennifer Voelzke Bahr Jason of Topeka, KS; two grandsons, Gabriel and Tanner Simmons of Overland Park; and two great grandsons Brett and Preston Bahr of Topeka. Mrs. Simmons is also survived by one brother Walter P. McMillen of Lodi, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louis, George H., and Harold McMillen; five sisters, Mary Juanita McMillen, Bonnie Foreman, Lynna Phinney, Prebble McMillen and Betty Bays. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, KS. Dr. Wayne Norton will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. to sign the guest register. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Foundation or Coffeyville Meals on Wheels; these may be left with the funeral home.
