Flonnie Knewtson

Flonnie P. Knewtson, 99, of Edna, Kansas entered her eternal home September 7, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Flonnie was born February 17, 1912 to George W. and Minnie Campbell Burnett near Monticello, Kentucky. At age 9 she moved to Kansas with her family, settling near Edna. She attended Ripon Grade School and graduated as valedictorian of her class at Edna High School. At age 13, Flonnie received Jesus Christ as her Savior at a revival at the First Baptist Church, Altamont, Kansas. At age 15 she was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church at Edna where she remained a member until her death. Flonnie married Raymond E. Knewtson March 28, 1934 in the Baptist Parsonage at Oswego, Kansas. They made their home on a farm south east of Edna in the Ripon community and later moved to another farm near Edna where Flonnie still lived. Family and church were her main priorities. Flonnie taught Sunday School classes for many years and has a plaque recognizing 35 years of service. Most of the time she taught junior boys and sometimes junior girls. She has had several students come back years later and tell her something specific they learned under her teaching. At least three of her former students went into the ministry when they were grown and many others are active in their church. For many years Flonnie was active in the Womens Missionary Society at church, sang in the choir and also taught in Bible School. She served as room mother for both of her children when they were in school. She was also a member of the Sunshine Embroidery Club. She was a prayer warrior for her family and others in the community that needed prayer. Before becoming a mother, Flonnie like to quilt and has pieced and hand quilted many quilts. She has won blue and purple ribbons on her quilts at the Coffeyville Fair. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Knewtson, Coffeyville a son, David Knewtson and his wife Linda, Nixa, Missouri three grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Tiana Knewtson, Fredericksburg, Virginia Doctors Jeremy and Sherry Knewtson, Lees Summit, Missouri Doctors Melinda and Jeremy Reed, Springfield, Missouri six great grandchildren, Caroline and Jack Knewtson, Fredericksburg, Virginia Nathan and Elsa Knewtson, Lees Summit, Missouri Avery and Lucas Reed, Springfield, Missouri and a brother, Woodrow Burnett, of Edna. She had many nieces and nephews. Flonnie was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother who died in infancy, and her husband, Raymond Knewtson. Flonnie had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna for over 80 years. Services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at Edna with Rev. Charles Evans officiating. Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery with PenwellGabel Funeral Home in charge. Friends may call at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2011 to sign the guest register. Memorials are to the First Baptist Church of Edna or Gideons International. These may be left with the funeral home.
