Florence Thomson Dworzack, 95, of Coffeyville, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS. Florence was born February 28, 1915, in Burlington, Iowa to Louie J. Thomson and Sophie Wemmie Thomson. She married Ervin J. Dworzack on May 9, 1938. They moved to Wyoming in November 1939 when Mr. Dworzack accepted a position with the Federal Aviation Administration FAA. They were transferred to Coffeyville, Kansas in 1940 and to Burlington, Iowa in 1941. In December 1943 the couple was transferred to Kauai, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, Florence attended classes in Chinese and Japanese cooking, Japanese flower arranging, swimming, and hula dancing. She completed a 6month course at Kumabe School of Pattern Making and Design. She earned her GED from the State of Hawaii and attended classes at the Kauai Community College and earned some credits at the University of Hawaii. She received her substitute teachers certificate from the State of Hawaii and was employed by the school department for 12 years. She was active in PTA activities serving one year as VP and two years as PTA President for the local school. She also served one year as VP and one year as PTA President for the school District, and as state Magazine Chairman for the year 1961. During her year as Chairman, the state of Hawaii had the largest percent increase in new magazine subscription in the 50 states. For her efforts, Mrs. Dworzack was awarded a gold bracelet from the National PTA. She was an active member of the Coffeyville Chapter of the NARFE Natl. Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her sister Hilda Robbins. Survivors include her son and daughterinlaw, Doctor David Dworzack and Mrs. Alice Dworzack of Omaha, Nebraska. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimers Foundations these may be left with the funeral home.
