Flossie A. Newland Burton, 105, of Liberty, Kansas passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Medical Lodges of Independence, Kansas.
Flossie was born on June 17, 1908 in St. Paul, Kansas to Silas E. and Cora May Thompson Newland. She grew up in St. Paul where she received her education. On March 11, 1951 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Leonard F. Burton in Liberty, Kansas. The couple lived in Carbondale, Kansas and Belton, Missouri before returning to Liberty, Kansas in 1970.
Flossie spent her time raising her family. She was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and collecting things like chickens, salt and pepper shakers, vases and post cards.
Surviving to honor her memory are her four grandchildren, several greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Cora loving husband, Leonard a son, Leonard Lee Newland who passed away in 1982 a daughterinlaw, Mary Hull Newland and by nine brothers and sisters.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10am at the Richland Cemetery north of Angola, Kansas. Pastor Bill Booe will officiate. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Liberty United Methodist Church these may be left with the funeral home.
