Floyd Harris

Floyd L. Harris, 92, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Thursday evening, March 31, 2011 at CRMC. Floyd was born August 31, 1918 near Liberty, Kansas to Edgar and Grace Bever Harris. He grew up in the Coffeyville area where he received his high school education. He worked for Copelands Green House, Tackett Theatre, ISMO Theatre, Kirby Shoe Store, Parkersburg Rig and Reel, Crow Drug Store, and was a clerk, cashier and chief clerk for Missouri Pacific Railroad from September 10, 1942 until his retirement on August 31, 1979. On April 5, 1942 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, NeldaJean Powell in Lawrence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville. Floyd was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was elected to the Advisory Committee for the Missouri Pacific Industrial Credit Union from 1973 to 1997 and was elected to the Board of Directors from 1986 until 1998. He was a member of the Brotherhood Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks since 1942, a member of AARP and of B.R.A.C. Sunflower Lodge 888. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed his dogHoppy. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean of 68 years son, Bob Harris and wife, Joyce of Little Rock, AR grandchildren, Doug Harris and wife, Jeanie Kristie Person and husband, Jon greatgrandchildren, Trent, Mason, Sara Grace, Amanda and Jon David all of Little Rock, AR niece, Leota Roeder of Coffeyville, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Grace brother, Ora Harris and sister, Lalah Pearce. A memorial service will be held on 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.Friends may call on Monday, April 4, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel to sign the guest register. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church. These may be left with the funeral home.
