Frances Irene Barker, 78, Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away late Monday morning, January 24, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Frances was born August 13, 1932 at Coffeyville to Ira L. Filkel and Halle Mae Dick Filkel. She was a lifelong Coffeyville resident and received her education there as well. Frances married Don Barker, Sr. on August 13, 1949 at Miami, Oklahoma. The couple later divorced. Frances worked as a secretary and office administrator for Medicalodge of Coffeyville for 20 years. She was an avid bowler, actively participating in several leagues. Frances loved growing plants of all kinds. She enjoyed big jigsaw puzzles and board games, especially, Yahtzee. Survivors are two sons, Don Barker, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Coffeyville and Steve Barker and his wife, Tina of Junction City, Kansas three daughters, Emily McVay and her husband, Milan of Barberton, Ohio, Sue Speece and her husband, Rance and Jean Noble, all of Osage City, Kansas one sister, Norma Jean McCarter of Las Vegas, Nevada 15 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents her exhusband and a sister, Ellen Lee. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January29, 2011 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Frances will be laid to rest in Coffeyvilles Fairview Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel Funeral Home amp Crematory. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home during regular business hours and until service time, Saturday. Those who wish may give to the Frances Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund for NonTraditional Nursing Students at Coffeyville Community College and donations may be left with the funeral home.
