FrancisFrank White, 77, of Coffeyville passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Frank was born to Daisy Mae Smith White Killough and William White on July 14, 1932 in Arcadia, Kansas. He later moved to Coffeyville where he attended school. In 1948 at the age of 15 he enlisted in the Army with the aid of falsified papers. He went to basic training in Fort Knox, KY. Later when his underage status was discovered, he was given the option of leaving without any ramifications or remaining in the service. He stayed and served in the infantry until 1953. His tour of duty included Germany and Korea during the Korean War. While home on leave in 1952, Frank married Lena Alice Timmerman. After six years of military, he returned to Coffeyville and returned to school, graduating Coffeyville Community College in 1957. Frank worked as a carpenter all his life and was a member of the Carpenters Union. He worked in carpentry with a local contractor, Harold Fuqua, for twenty years. He then went into business for himself running the White Construction Company for twentyfive years. He was proud of his work and loved pointing out the 100 homes he built from the ground up as well as countless repair work he completed. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker, pool, softball, racquet ball, bowling and golf especially golf. After retirement he spent many enjoyable hours on the golf course playing with grandsons and good friends. Frank achieved the ultimate golfing triumph with a HoleinOne on the 183yard, par 3, number4, hole at the Cherryvale Country Club on September 19, 1982 witnessed by two good golfing buddies. Frank was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1022 and the American Legion 20. In 2007 he served as Commander of the American Legion. During his tenure he worked with the Coffeyville Public Library and the Field Kindley Art Department converting an old book drop into a proper drop off for old tattered American Flags. All flags dropped in the box are then disposed of according to protocol. This drop box is located in front of the American Legion. Surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife, Alice of the home daughter, Linda McFall and husband, Roger son, RonaldRonnie White and wife, Crystal grandsons, Scott McFall and wife, Brandy, Shane McFall and wife, Ashley, Randall Harris and wife, Heidi five greatgrandchildren which were his pride and joy, Thane McFall, Khane McFall, Hurley McFall, Oliver Harris, Naomi Fishback brother, Joseph White and wife, Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billie Tosh. Franks greatgrandchildren were the light of his life and gave him great joy. The family suggests memorial contribution be made to the Frank White Memorial Education Fund. These may be left with the funeral home or Condon National Bank. Cremation has taken place a memorial service is being held Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Patio in Coffeyville at 10:00 a.m. Chaplain Mike Graham will officiate. Friends may call on Sunday, April 18, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
