Gary Wade Plisek, 60, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Saturday, February, 23rd at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Gary was born on January 28th, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma to Jake J. and Mildred L. McCormick Plisek. He attended Sycamore Grade School and graduated from Independence High School in 1966. After graduation, he attended McFarland Trade School in Coffeyville, Kansas where he received a machinist certification in 1967. During his younger years, Gary enjoyed drag racing and keeping his 1969 Roadrunner in top racing condition. You could often find him at MOKAN Dragway on weekends. Gary married Linda LaRay Ward on August 21, 1971 in Neodesha, Kansas. After graduation from McFarland Trade School, Gary went to work for Parmac for eight years. He then began his 32 years at Farmland IndustriesCoffeyville Resources initially as a machinist and later accepted a position as Rotation Equipment Specialist which he held until the time of his death. Gary was a Mason and a lifetime member of National Rifle Association. He and Linda took many wonderful trips together over the years, one of their favorite vacation spots being Colorado. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt deer, elk, turkey, quail, and pheasant. He enjoyed yearly four-wheeling and hunting trips in the mountains and also looked forward to his yearly prairie dog shoots. Gary enjoyed his gun and knife collection, gunsmithing and his own personal shooting range. He loved to work up special ammunition loads and to share his expertise with others. Woodworking was one of his favorite hobbies and he spent a lot of his free time planning and handcrafting projects that remain in their home. Above all, Gary was a loving and attentive husband, dedicated family man and true friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; two brothers, Donnie Plisek and David Plisek, both of Sycamore, Kansas; sister, Nancy Cannon of Hutchinson, Kansas; many nieces and nephews and two great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Donna Plisek. Gary will be missed by many loving family members and life long friends. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation has taken place. No additional services will be held. Private inurnment will be take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Rifle Association or to the Dearing Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
