Glen Tongier

Glen Leroy Tongier was born December 17, 1924 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Russell M. and Effie Johnson Tongier. He married Sharon Lynn Oakes on July 28, 1951 in Dodge City, Kansas. Two children were born of the marriage, Cheryl Ann Luecke July 29, 1954 and John D. Tongier May 1, 1957.

Glen graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School Class of 1942 and later Coffeyville Jr. College. He served in the United States Naval Reserve from July 1943 to May 1946 and held the rank of Aviation Radioman, Third Class.

He received his A.B. Degree from the University of Kansas in June of 1949 followed by his L.L.B. Degree law degree from K.U. in June of 1951 and finally his Juris Doctorate Degree from K.U. in 1968. Glen practiced law in Coffeyville from 1951 until his retirement in 1996.

As a lawyer, he served as Montgomery County Attorney from 1958 through 1962. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association and was a member and pastPresident of the Montgomery County Bar Association. He was active in political and civic affairs as well, serving as Montgomery County Republican Chairman from 1964 through 1966. He was a member and pastPresident of U.S.D. 445 and served as attorney for the school district many years. He was a member of the ST. Pauls Episcopal Church in Coffeyville and served on the Vestry.

Glen was a member and pastPresident of the Coffeyville Rotary Club. He was a member of Keystone Lodge 112 A.F. A.M., Chapter, and Commandery and Shrine.

He was a member of the K.U. tennis team that won the conference championship in 1948, and he was a conference double champion that year as well. He went on to coach the K.U. tennis team in 1951. Glen was a member of the K.U. Lettermans Club and was a member of the Williams Fund at K.U. for many years.

Glen is survived by his wife, Sharon, his children and his grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at the St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Coffeyville, Kansas under the direction of the FordWulfBruns Chapel.
