Gus Troxel, 74, of Coffeyville died peacefully Wednesday October 19, 2005 at the family residence in Coffeyville KS. Gus was born June 26, 1931 to parents Clotilda Gunderson and Bruce Troxel in Dekalb County Missouri. Gus proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the 96th Field Artillery from 1952 through 1954. On March 30, 1956 he married Nedra Salmon in Kansas City Missouri. Gus and Nedra moved to Coffeyville in May of 1965. Gus owned the Southeast Kansas Sewing Center in Downtown Coffeyville. Gus later worked for and retired from Prudential Insurance Company as an agent. After retirement he worked for S.E.K. Senior Services and Condon National Bank. Gus was very active in the Coffeyville Community. He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Fair Association as well as a memeber of the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce and the V.F.W. Gus worshiped at St. Paul39;s Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and other committee positions. Gus also served as a past president of the Daylight Defender39;s Lions Club. Survivors include Nedra of the home, daughter Cynthia of Tucson, daughter Cheryl Mike Heasty of Lawrence, son William of Olathe, sister Margaret Roger Hinderks of Amity Mo, and brother Richard Lois Troxel of Independence, Mo, and beloved nieces and nephews. Gus was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and daughter Christina. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, at St. Paul39;s Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 24, at Bethel Cemetery near Weatherby, Missouri. Mr. Troxel will lie in state from 1-8:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Chapel. The family has suggested memorials be given to the St. Paul39;s Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the CRMC Foundation or Harry Hines Memorial Hospice Service. Gus was a devoted Son, Husband, Uncle and Father and a dear friend to the Coffeyville Community and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
