Harold Papen, Sr.

Harold L. Papen, Sr. 1923 2005 Harold L. Papen, Sr., age 82, passed on February 4, 2005 in his home in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was born January 16, 1923 to James Delmar Papen and Luella Baker Papen in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was born and raised in Coffeyville. He attended West Coffeyville Grade School and Field Kindley Memorial High School. He entered the US Army in February of 1943 during WWII and served with the 236th General Hospital in Africa, France, Italy and Germany. He was honorably discharged October of 1945. He served in the Army Reserve from August of 1948 July of 1952. On June 10, 1946 he married Helena Lee in Coffeyville, Kansas. Mr. Papen worked for the City of Coffeyville for 34 years as a Police Officer and with the City Utility Department. He retired in 1985. After retirement he served as a City Commissioner for eight years. He also served as Mayor of Coffeyville. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife Helena of the home in Coffeyville One daughter, Linda Trotter, Lawrence, Kansas Two sons, Harold Papen, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri Jim Papen of Independence, Kansas Eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter He was preceded in death by his parents and a half sister, Blendena Sloan. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.. Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association of American Diabetes Association co Penwell-Gabel.
