Harold Dewayne Pitts of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at CRMC. He was 91. Harold was born on November 12, 1919 in Neodesha, Kansas to Parrum and Nancy Powell Pitts. He grew up in Coffeyville where he received his education from FKHS. He went on to attend CCC and Friends University in Wichita, Ks. On June 20, 1941 he was united in marriage to Pauline Merryfield in Coffeyville where the couple made their home. Harold served in the Army for WWII stateside. He returned to Coffeyville and worked as a machinist and parts inspector. He helped with the manufacturing of the first space shuttle. Harold started the Sharon Baptist Church in Wichita and served as supply preacher for various churches around the area. He was the associate pastor at Central Baptist Church in Coffeyville. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline of the home sons, David Pitts of Independence, Ks, Charles Pitts and wife, Kathy of Coffeyville, Ks daughters, Jeanette Mills and husband, Bob of Cadiz, Ky, Pam McClenning and husband, Mike of Coffeyville seventeen grandchildren fifteen greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Parrum and Nancy daughter, Paula Harmon sister, Dorothy Lester and brothers, Meurlin, Elvin and Donald Pitts. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6pm until 7pm. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Central Baptist Church of Coffeyville. These may be left with the funeral home.
