Harold Robert Pruette, 98, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1911 in Newton County, Missouri to William Grant Pruette and Cara Minnie Smith Pruette. At age three the family moved to a farm east of Grove, Oklahoma. Following WWI they moved to Edna, Kansas and the following spring to a farm in Craig County, Oklahoma, where they lived until 1928. The family also lived on a farm between Tyro and Independence, Kansas and then moved to Independence. In October, 1942, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in Norman, Oklahoma in 1945 after serving in WWII on the East Coast and in the Pacific from the Russell Islands to Okinawa. In 1951 Harold moved with his mother to Pocatella, Idaho where he worked for FMC Corporation as a shipping and receiving clerk until his retirement in 1974. On May 11, 1976 he married Arlene Stine at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, Oklahoma. Harold loved gardening, chicken wings and milk shakes. He also enjoyed gathering walnuts and pecans in the fall. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a daughter, son-in-law and a nephew. Survivors include daughters: Jo Anne Long and husband Bill, Beverly Kimrey and Judith Lowery, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services for Harold R. Pruette will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Edna First Baptist Church in Edna, Kansas. Interment will follow at North Edna Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arranements.
