Helen Haviland

Helen Christine Haviland age 85 passed away on February 28, 2018 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Helen was formerly of Coffeyville but moved to Alma, AR in 2011 to be able to be taken care of and closer to her daughter, grandson and great-grandchildren.

Helen was born on January 17, 1933 in Cherokee, Kansas in Crawford County, to Fred and Mary (Setina) Glades. She last attended school at Roosevelt Junior High School in May of 1948. In her younger years she held various jobs including Liebert Dry Goods as a clerk in Cherryvale, KS; Kash Groceries and Eldridge Drug in Thayer, KS, where she met the love of her life, Ray. She was also bonded by S.H. Kress & Co. and worked as a clerk in Chanute, KS. in 1952. On September 11, 1953 she was united in marriage to Arthur Ray Haviland in Thayer, KS. The couple was blessed with a daughter.

Helen loved being a wife and a mother, sister and aunt. She took pride in caring for the home, and the needs of her family and took pride in taking care of the household finances, while Ray worked at Funk Manufacturing in Coffeyville. She was truly the definition of a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchild and great-granddaughters were her life.

Helen's memories will live on with her Daughter, Deborah Christine Haviland Collins of Alma, AR, Ronnie Monks and Curtis Howe who were absolutely fearless in helping Debbie care for the needs of her mother. Other survivors include her brother Frederick Glades his wife Bonnie of Bartlesville, OK, sisters, Mary Ann Garrison of Coffeyville and Pat Lindesmith her husband Larry of Dearing, KS, grandson Justin Ray Collins his wife Aimee of Springdale, AR, seven step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Izabel Christine Collins and Chloe Elizabeth Collins of Fort Smith, AR, and many nieces and nephews. Great-granddaughters Izabel and Chloe have a special bond with Helen in that Izabel was born the same day as Helen and Chloe celebrated her Heavenly birthday.

She now rests with her parents, grandmother Anna Glades and husband Roy of 39 years.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers are welcome however in lieu the family suggests memorials be made payable to the Alzheimer's Association and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel 2405 Woodland Ave Coffeyville, KS 67337.
