Helen Joy McDill, age 85 of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away peacefully joining her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.
Helen was born on October 16, 1931 to Loren and Lucy Marie (Peyton) Hopkins in Havana, Kansas. Helen was one of thirteen children and the last survivor, she grew up and attended school and graduated from high school in Mound Valley, Kansas. Soon after graduating Helen married Vincent Estes Love in 1951, with a servant's heart she stepped in to motherhood, loving Vincent's children, Hilda ''Jeanette'' and Vincent Allen Love, though the children lived in California she always remembered their birthdays, and holidays. They did visit her and she them in later years. California was a LONG ways away in the fifties. Together Helen and Vincent had a daughter, Cheryl. Vincent preceded her in death in 1986. Helen always enjoyed attending church and teaching Sunday School, she was very active in the Mound Valley Baptist Church for many years. In 1989 she married Jerry McDill in McCune, Kansas in the home they would make together; over the years they have moved several places. They have shared in 28 wonderful years of marriage. Helen loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; she was a hard worker and devoted to her family. She started working at the age of ten. She was a waitress, a school secretary, employed at Continental Can, Lee Manufacturing, Funk of Coffeyville and Adventure Line of Parsons, Kansas State Hospital and others.
Helen is survived by her husband, Jerry McDill; daughter, Cheryl (Love) Brown and her husband, Randall of Woodbine, Kansas; step son, Vincent Allen Love and his wife Dona both of California; step daughter, Jennelle Speer and her husband, Michael of Coffeyville, Kansas; step son, John McDill and his wife Sarah of Independence, Kansas; five grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephew, friends and additional family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Lucy Marie (Peyton) Hopkins, first husband, Vincent Love, step daughter, Hilda Janette from a brain aneurysm and her twelve siblings.
Wednesday, March 15, 2017 the family will receive friends at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas from 6 to 8 pm. A time of celebrating Helen's life will begin at 7 pm. Cremation will follow the celebration and inurnment will take place on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Independence, Kansas at 10:30 am. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made payable to First Baptist Church of Independence and may be left in care of the chapel.
