Helen Tomes of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Dewey, Oklahoma. She was 83. Helen was born May 1, 1925 in Elliott, Oklahoma to John and Anna Miesner Hollmann. She grew up and attended school at St. Pauls Parochial School from 1930 to 1938 then went to Lenapah, graduating high school in 1942. She was united in marriage on January 24, 1945 to Allen C. Tomes at the old St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. She was an active member at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. She was a member of the Mary Martha Circle and Altar guild. She taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Helen owned and operated the Deluxe Dry Cleaners for twenty five years with her husband. Later she helped her daughter, Susan and son-in-law Don for eight years at their restaurantBetter N Nothin in South Coffeyville. Most of all she loved taking care of her kids and grandkids. Surviving to honor her memory is her loving husband, Allen of the home; daughters Nancy Gene Stanford of Edmond, OK, Susan Don Lakey of South Coffeyville, OK; son, Danny Teri Tomes of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Tiffini Johnston, Tara Sink, Amanda Crane, Carrie Tomes, Mitchell Lakey, Jarrod Lakey; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. Reverend Richard Peckman will officiate. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date. Friends may call on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, these may be left with the funeral home.
