Helene Dunbar formerly of Coffeyville died, Friday, August 29, 2008 in Alhambra, CA. She was 92. Mrs. Dunbar was born December 31, 1915 in Jasper County, Missouri to William A. and Odessa Wyman McBean. In 1918 the family moved to northeast Oklahoma where Mrs. Dunbar attended school through the seventh grade. In 1929 the family moved to West Woodland Road in rural Coffeyville. Helene entered the eighth grade at Roosevelt School and attended Field Kindley Memorial High School where she graduated with the class of 1934. After graduation she married William B. Cornner of Coffeyville and continued her education at Coffeyville Community College. In 1936 the family moved to Wichita, KS where Helene attended Wichita University. In 1937 they moved to Southern California where she attended El Camino College and U.C.L.A. In 1959 she joined the Los Angeles May Department Store Company on the Executive Development Program, working in all areas of Personnel Management. In 1964 she was promoted to Personnel Director of the newly opened West Los Angeles May Company Branch. In 1966 she transferred to that same position in the South Bay Branch in Redondo Beach where she continued until her retirement in 1981. Mr. Conner preceded her in death February 1, 1969. After retirement in 1981 she returned to Coffeyville and worked part time with the Coffeyville Teachers Credit Union. In April, 1987 she married Chet Dunbar of Coffeyville. Mr. Dunbar preceded her in death July, 13 1996. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, and D.A.R. Jane Dean Coffey Chapter. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Cornner of Northridge, California and Robert Cornner of Playa del Rey, California; four grandchildren, Charles B. Cornner, Matthew Cornner, Kelly Cornner and Ryan Cornner; three step-grandchildren, Bethany Hartford, Lauren Brewer and Scott Hartford all southern California.
