Herbert Herb F. Sollman, 75, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Herb was born on March 3, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Theophile and Rosa Bleacha Sollman. He grew up in the South CoffeyvilleLenapah area where he earned his high school education. Herb went on to serve his country in the Army Signal Corps. While serving, he was able to attend Army Signal Corps Radio School and C.I.E. Correspondence School.
On July 5, 1963 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna Ruth Miller in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Herb enjoyed working on old radios and televisions. He was a HAM Radio Operator. He worked for various T.V. repair shops until going to work for the City of Coffeyville in 1971. Herb was in charge of servicing all the radio equipment until his retirement from the City of Coffeyville in 2000.
He was a member and Deacon of the Central Baptist Church, and a member of the Amateur HAM Radios W0ILJ. Herb loved spending time at the Coffeyville Public Library. He and his wife Donna spent a lot of time there. After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the Library. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving to honor his memory are his sisterinlaws, Bonnie Despaw, Virginia Hartzell and Judy Hartzell all of Coffeyville, Kansas and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Donna, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Theophile and Rosa.
Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Cofffeyville. Pastor Charles Pitts will officiate. FordWulfBruns Chapel of Coffeyville is handling arrangements. The family has requested flowers not be sent. Memorial contributions can be made to the Coffeyville Public Library these may also be left with the funeral home.
