Howard JamesJim Hood, 87, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009. Jim was born November 12, 1921 in Fairfax, Oklahoma to Howard James Hood, Sr. and Cloe Tilda Francis Jump Hood. They were later
orced. His step-father, Jesse Hutcheson was very influential in his life. Jim received his education from Fairfax and Ponca City, Oklahoma; graduating from Ponca City High School. While in Fairfax, Jim was an outstanding team player for the Fairfax Red Devils. After graduation, Jim moved to California to work in the shipyards as a welder prior to entering the Navy. He served from 1944 to 1946 when he received an honorable discharge. He married June Hersen in 1939. They had three children, Anita, Kent and Jessica. Jim and June were later
orced. In 1961, he married Joleen Moore Dietz in Miami, Oklahoma; she had two daughters, Patty and Terry. He was employed by Cities Service, Sequoia which later became Conoco Incorporated. He retired in 1984 with 37 years of service. In later years, one of his greatest joys was following the Coffeyville Wrestling Club. His grandson, Jim Ray Zeigler was a member of the team. He was also an avid follower of OU and OSU sports, especially football, baseball and wrestling. He also enjoyed bowling and traveling. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Joleen, of the home; children Anita Willis of Medanales, New Mexico, Kent Hood and Jessica Irons of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Terry Dietz of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and son-in-law, Phil Zeigler of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Debbie Olson, Jimmy Zeigler, Stacey Dent, Nikki McGee, Kristin Halliburton, Kelly Munoz, Kimberly Halliburton; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter, Patty Zeigler. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville, Kansas. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may sign the guest register from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church of Coffeyville in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
