Howard Wayne Mangels, 80 of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, passed away on his birthday, Friday, February 8, 2008 at his home. Howard was born in the old Southeast Kansas Hospital in Coffeyville, Kansas; the son of Edmund J. and Beulah Young Mangels. He graduated from Lenapah High School in 1946. He married Susie Griswold in 1950; they
orced. Howard later married Rozella Clark and she passed away in 1980. Following her death, in 1981 he married Norma Jean Inman Vogan, she survives of the home. He was a life long resident of the South Coffeyville, OK area and moved to the city of South Coffeyville in 1978. He was a self employed farmer for many years as well as being a welder and an avid computer operator. He considered himself to be aJack of all trades. Amongst being a farmer he was also employed by Funk Manufacturing for 10 years, and drove a school bus for SCHS for 11 years and was a substitute school bus driver fro OUHS for 4 years; he was known to many for beingtheir 1 bus driver. Howard served in the U.S. Army in Korea and received a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Coffeyville, KS and served on the church board for many years. He was also a lifetime member of Nowata Co. Farm Bureau and served on the board of directors for many years, VFW Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20. He enjoyed life, spending time with family and friends, his church work, square dancing, his computer, deer hunting with his sons, and traveling. Surviving to honor his memory his wife, Norma Jean; sons, Dane Mangels and Beverly Johnson of Nowata, OK; and Vince and Debbie Mangels of South Coffeyville, OK; step-son, Bob Vogan of Lenapah, OK; brother, Bill and Glenna Mangels of Lenapah, OK; sister-in law, Carol Mangels of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Misty and Tom Wishall of Bartlesville, OK, Nikole and Chris Drum of Coffeyville, KS, Dana Mangels and Rayna Mangels of South Coffeyville, OK, Tiffani Vogan of Bartlesville, OK; great-granddaughter, Charli Nikole Drum; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and Meril Montee of Bartlesville, OK; and many other relatives, friends, and loved ones. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harley Mangels. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, KS. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be given to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
