Tyro resident, Inez Lucretia Hartzog passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008. She was 99. Inez was born March 31, 1909 in Silverton, Colorado to Henry and Jessie Alvarado. She graduated from Tyro High School the attended Baker University for a year and graduated from Oklahoma A amp; M in May of 1931 with a bachelors in Education. On December 22, 1956 she married Charles T. Hartzog in Tripoli, Libya North Africa. He later preceded her in death on July 25, 2002. Inez began teaching at Cotton Valley, Oklahoma from September 1933 until May of 1936. She began work for the Corps in August of 1946. She went to the Philippines for two years; stationed in several locations including Turkey, Japan, Libya, and many others stateside and abroad. Surviving to honor her memory is her cousin, Clyde Nina Fields of rural Caney, Kansas; and good friends, Joe Karen Pyle. She was also preceded by her parents. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Tyro United Methodist Church in Tyro, Kansas. Reverend Dan Carr will officiate. Burial will follow at Fawn Creek Cemetery near Tyro, Kansas. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. to sign the guest register. Family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
