Irene E. Tovey, 93, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Irene was born on May 16, 1921 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Earl and Rose Holderbaum. She moved to Coffeyville with her family by covered wagon in 1921 as an infant.
She was married to Merle A. Walker and of that union four sons were born. The couple later divorced.
Irene spent her time taking care of the home and raising her boys. Irene worked at Lee Manufacturing in Cherryvale, KS as a Supervisor and at the Parsons Ammunition Plant.
On February 18, 1972 she was united in marriage to Burce F. Tovey. The couple made Coffeyville their home. She enjoyed going to garage sales, fishing for crappie and most of all she was a fantastic cook and made the best cinnamon rolls. She was a member of the Amazing Grace Chapel where she attended church until moving to the nursing home.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Jim Walker and wife, Ellen of Claremore, Oklahoma, Bob Walker and wife, Brenda of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Rick Walker and wife Marianna of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; Pam Jones and husband, Bill of Coffeyville, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Rose; loving husband, Burce; eldest son, Jackie "Jack" Walker; brother, Prince Holderbaum and a sister, Lorene Williams.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may sign the guest register at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The casket will be closed.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made payable to the Amazing Grace Chapel 501 E 9th Coffeyville, KS 67337; these may be left with the funeral home.
