Mrs. Iris Winnie Brown, 87, former Coffeyville resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday evening at Wood Manor Nursing Center in Claremore, Oklahoma. Mrs. Brown was born August 15, 1925 in Nowata County, Oklahoma, the daughter of August Chapman and Lottie Starr Chapman. She attended Lightening Creek School in Nowata, County. She worked as a homemaker until the death of her husband and then she began working as a teachers aide at Field Kindley High School and worked in Home Health for the State of Kansas. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Mission President, Jolly L. Club and was an active member of the Senior Citizens. On June 6, 1944 at Coffeyville, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Mansfield Brown. Mr. Brown preceded his wife in death on June 8, 1977. Surviving this union are: four sons, Melvin Brown of Everman, Texas, Maurice Brown of Benbrook, Texas, Michael Brown of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mitchell Brown of Ft. Worth, Texas five daughters, Geneva Darlene Germany of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Loretta Kennard of Coffeyville, Kansas, Charlotte Cummings and Lynda Tittle, both of Wichita, Kansas and Winifred Nash of Nowata, Oklahoma 11 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild a brother Eldon Chapman of Lowell, Mass and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, a sister, one grandchild and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the PenwellGabel Ford Wulf Bruns Chapel with the Reverend Steven Griffith, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church of Coffeyville, officiating. Interment will be at the Veterans Garden of Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The family suggested memorial remembrances to Wood Manor Nursing Center in Claremore, Oklahoma and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
