Jack Thomas Allen, 85, of Liberty, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Asbury Village in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Jack was born on August 23, 1928 in Liberty, Kansas to Orange Fargo and Mary Schierlmann Allen. He grew up in Liberty, Kansas where he received his high school education. He went on to attend Independence Community College before enlisting to serve his country as a United States Marine. His enlistment began in July of 1951 until his honorable discharge in July of 1953. Jack had obtained the rank of Corporal. He was recognized as a member of the Marine Sharp Shooter unit and was very proud of serving his country.
In June of 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Price. The couple made their home in Liberty, Kansas. She preceded him in death in January of 2001. Jack was a truck driver. He drove his first load of cattle to Kansas City when he was only twelve years old. He was a coowner of the Allen Brothers Truckline for several years before going to work at Farmland Industries as a truck driver. After he retired from Farmland, he built Jacks Place in Liberty, Kansas. After failing health he sold Jacks Place before making Asbury Village his home this past year.
He was a member of the Coffeyville VFW Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20. He enjoyed dancing, singing and music. Most of all he loved to spend time surrounded by family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Surviving to honor his memory are his children, Frank Allen of Coffeyville, Kansas, Greg Allen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alysia Johnston of Edna, Kansas, Dr. Mark Allen of Morris, Oklahoma, Bart Allen of Arkansas City, Kansas, Dr. Julia Allen of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dr. Melinda AllenCullins of Caney, Kansas grandchildren, Cody Allen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Weslie Nolte of Delaware, Oklahoma, Curtis Johnston of Edna, Kansas, Dr. Adelaide Allen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shelbie Jo Johnston of Pittsburg, Kansas, Gavin Allen of Morris, Oklahoma, Gage Allen of Morris, Oklahoma, Price Allen of Arkansas City, Kansas and Emmerson Allen of Arkansas City, Kansas and three greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Mary Bub, he was also preceded in death by his parents, Orange Fargo and Mary brothers Clarence and Carl Allen and sisters, Eva Maki and Eleanor Maxvill.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Antoinette Tackett will officiate. Eulogy will be provided by Julia Allen. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20. The family would like to invite friends and family to join them following the service at the Liberty First United Methodist Church for food and fellowship. Friends may call on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register.
