Jack Franklin Weathers, 78, of Oologah, Oklahoma, passed away on April 25, 2021.
Jack grew up in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma where he had many close friends and family. He met and married Janice Caldwell at the age of 21. They started in Wichita, Kansas then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they raised 3 children. Jack and Jan were married for 22 years.
He began his career as a machinist in Byron Jackson’s pump division for 42 years. Jack poured himself into his career, loved his job and never compromised his work ethic. He was rewarded for his hard work and dedication through consistent promotions to foreman, supervisor and senior manufacturing engineer before retiring as the company’s senior buyer.
In 1991, Jack and Judy started their life together in Tulsa. Before his retirement, they relocated to Oologah where his grandchildren loved to fish, play frisbee and football, drive the golf cart until the battery died and explore the creek for wildlife, critters and the occasional snake. His place became the centerpiece for numerous Fourth of July traditions as well as evenings out visiting with family and friends on the patio or tinkering with old cars in the shop. In his spare moments, Jack could be found often, at his childhood farm cleaning up the land and burning brush piles. Jack was a loyal OU football fan and with a lot of encouragement from Judy, became a lover of travel with trips to Costa Rica and cruises to the Caribbean.
Jack’s kids will always remember the vacations to Colorado. Stopping at cave tours, wading in rivers and staying at historic hotels. The quality time spent at Silver Dollar City, Broken Bow, Hot Springs were just a few of the biennial trips that always included the entire family. Jack loved having the whole gang present.
Jack was born on March 2, 1943 in Nowata County to William Dillard Weathers and Flora Jane Crites. He was the youngest of eight siblings and is survived by his companion, Judy Smith of Oologah, OK, daughters, Debbra McDaniel and husband, Michael of Joplin, MO, and Tina McCaslin and husband, Jason of Owasso, OK; his son, Jeff Weathers and wife, Heather of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Allyssa McVay, Hailey McCaslin, Lindsey McCaslin, Emily McCaslin, Zach McVay, Chloe Weathers and Ava Weathers; and great-granddaughter Skyy McVay. He is also survived by Judy’s children, Stephanie Phipps and husband, Rand of Nichols Hills, OK, and Mike Smith of Tulsa, OK; Stephanie’s son Taylor Whiteside; brother Buck Hobbs of South Coffeyville, OK and sister Ruth Mehl of Coffeyville, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ruby, Robert, June, Billy, Mary, Albert and his former spouse Janice.
