James Derald Barnett 1946-2006 James Derald Barnett, age 60, passed away Wednesday afternoon, at his home in rural Caney, Kansas, February 22, 2006. James was born January 14, 1946 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to J.D. Barnett and Sarah Augustine Moore Barnett. He married Paula Clayton on March 27, 1970 in Liberty, Kansas. She survives in the home. James attended Caney High School, graduating in 1964. He graduated from Coffeyville Community College in 1970. He graduated from Pittsburg State University, with a Bachelors in Accounting, in 1972. He served with the United States Air Force and served a 12 month tour of duty in Southeast Asia, during the Vietnam War, from 1967 to 1968. James worked for the International CPA Firm of Grant Thorton of Wichita, from 1972 to 1975, for C. Robert Belt of Coffeyville, from 1975 to 1978, for Funks Mfg. of Coffeyville, from 1978 to 1999, for the City of Coffeyville, from 1999 to 2002 and for Dixons, from 2004 until the time of his death. Positions James has held and served include: 3 time Mayor of Coffeyville; Past President of Coffeyville Planning and Zoning; Member of the Montgomery County Planning and Zoning; Past President of the Southeast Kansas Chapter of CPAs; Member of the State Society of CPAs; Member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants; Past Chairman of the Ethics Committee of CPAs for the State of Kansas; Certified Economic Development Finance Professional; Life Member of the VFW and a Member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors. James was involved for the past 16 years shooting the Coffeyville Red Ravens Shot Gun, during the football season. Survivors include: Wife: Paula Barnett of rural Caney, Kansas. 1 Son: Jason Barnett and wife Melissa of Coffeyville, Kansas. 1 Daughter: Dana Barnett of Bentonville, Arkansas. 2 Grandchildren, Marley and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jeana Barnett and one daughter, Sasha Leigh Barnett in 1974. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 24, 2006, form 1:00pm to 9:00pm, at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., in Coffeyville. Family will receive friends from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2006, at 10:00am, at the Grace Fellowship Church, in Coffeyville. Reverend Gerald Morris and Pastor David Bycroft will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Grace Fellowship Building Fund or the CCC Athletic Dept. co Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Messages may be left with the family at www.penwellgabel.com
