James Davis Jr.

James M. Davis, Jr., ("Mack") passed away on November 4, 2015 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was 93 years old.

Mack leaves behind his best friend of 27 years, Betty Van Wey; a sister, Jeanne Zacher; six children (Kevin Davis, Jimi Davis, David Dalton, Dean Dalton, Clark Hall, and Clint Hall); ten grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

Born in Carthage, MO, on May 28, 1922, to James M. Davis, Sr., and Jesse Kammerdiener Davis, Mack grew up in the Carthage and Joplin area, graduating in 1940 from Joplin High School. After serving in the army during World War II and graduating from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, he returned to the area, working in several local pharmacies, including the Frisco Pharmacy which was owned by his father. Later, he worked as a hospital pharmacist at both Freeman and St. John's hospitals in Joplin as well as hospitals in Springfield, Aurora, and Mt. Vernon, MO; Miami and Grove, OK; and Coffeyville, KS.

Known for his quick smile and his quirky sense of humor, Mack always had a story or joke to share. He enjoyed eating ice cream, driving country roads, and painting geometric compositions as well as studying Civil War history and exploring genealogy. He attended First Baptist Church in Coffeyville for several years, and had been a resident at Windsor Place since 2008.
