James Newby

James Wesley Newby, 85, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011 at his home in Coffeyville. Jim was born September 1, 1925 atRed Onion Mining, near Pittsburg, Kansas to Elizabeth NewtonWalters. He grew up in Kinwood, Oklahoma and worked on farms in his early life. He later moved to Coffeyville where he met and married Marian Allene Coy on September 4, 1943. Mrs. Newby preceded her husband in death on May 8, 2010. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a railroad carman for North American Car Company and later for Missouri Pacific Railroad in Coffeyville. Survivors include one son, James Michael Newby of Westminster, Colorado and a sister, Clara June Pugh of Coffeyville uncle, Melvin Newton of Coffeyville cousins, Odes Newby of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, Tom Newton, DeWayne Newton and Stella NewtonFerrell of Coffeyville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Elizabeth by his loving wife, Marian by his son, Mark Douglas and by a sister, Thelma Eads. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery Veterans Patio under the direction of PenwellGabel Funeral Home amp Crematory. Military graveside rites will be accorded to Mr. Newby by VFW Post 1022. Friends may call on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
