James Leon OShields age 66 of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on November 25, 2014 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the FordWulfBruns Chapel of Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends my sign the register on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 10:00 a. m to 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made payable to the American Kidney Foundation and left in care of the funeral home.
James was born on October 30, 1948 to James Gordon John OShields and Pauline Fern Stewert OShields in Caney, Kansas. James grew up and attended school in Caney, Kansas. He was very active in the band playing the trombone from his 7th grade year until graduating. In addition to his accomplishments in the Caney High School Band he was chosen to play in the 1st All State Lyons Club Band in Toronto, Canada, and also appeared on the Ted Mac Amateur Hour in 1966. He attended college at Independence Community College and Pittsburg State University obtaining his Associates of Arts Degree concentrating in music.
Jim was a member of the Eastside Southern Baptist Church of Caney and the 1st United Methodist Church of Independence, Kansas. He was also a member of the Masonic Keystone Lodge 102, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Mirza Shrine. Jim was the owner and operator of Beautiful Home Builders and in 2000 he started teaching building trades, in Cherryvale, Kansas he was currently teaching in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Jim married to Paula Allgood and of that union two children were born, the couple later divorced. On July 17, 1985 he married Marilynn OShields. They have lived in the Coffeyville area for a number of years. Additional survivors include his son, James A. OShields and his wife Kim of Coffeyville, Kansas daughters, Staci Brewer and her husband Mark of Topeka, Kansas, Laura Birch of Joplin, Missouri sisters, Avo Arnett of Wichita, Kansas, Elsie Delgado of Exeter, California, Earlene Kay Foulk of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Nancy Baker of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Angela Plooster of Caney, Kansas brother, John F. OShields of Bolton, Kansas grandchildren, Kasi OShields, Meghan OShieldsAvigliano, Christian Davis, Katilyn Davis, Sierra Davis, Maja Birch, and Nicolai Birch great grandchildren, Mason James, Sophia Avigliano and two on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don Nally.
