James Jerome Ryan Coffeyville resident James Jerome Ryan entered into eternal rest on Wednesday evening, October 31, 2007 at his residence in Coffeyville. He was 95. James was born January 13, 1912 in Caney to Walter and Bertha Bell Ryan. He grew up and attended schools in Wayside, Havana and Independence High School. He served in the United States Army from 1941 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1945. On March 14, 1942 he married Mary Elizabeth Pocock in Coffeyville. The couple made their home in Caney until James accepted a position in the Boise - Meridian Idaho area. The family moved to Ada County Idaho where he farmed and worked for Ada County Weed Control for 21 years. He retired in 1974. The family returned to Coffeyville in 1990. Mr. Ryan enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and especially loved making clocks. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday School Class. James is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Ryan of the home; granddaughter, Michelle Sanchez; great-granddaughter, Marsella Sanchez both of Ketchikan, Alaska; a niece Mary Catherine Bookter and husband, Don of Coffeyville and many other neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Ryan; grandson, Toby Jerome Ryan; three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville or to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
