James Harold Stallings

James Harold Stallings, born on July 4, 1945, in McCrory, Arkansas, to George Harold and Juanita (Fink) Stallings passed away on December 17, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by family at CRMC in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was a man of steadfast determination whose life was marked by hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment to his family and career.

James dedicated over four decades of his professional life to the railroad industry, beginning at an entry-level position after graduating from McCrory High School.

In 1968 James married Vera Whitehead, sharing 36 years together and of that union two sons were born, Richard and Brent. Early in their marriage they moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas for James to begin his advancement in the railroad industry. Moving became the normality of the family depending on where James’s career led them. James and Vera later divorced but their love for their sons remained. It was through grit and dedication that James climbed the ranks to become a training manager in Safety, instilling a culture of diligence and care among his colleagues. 

It was on November 16, 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama that James married Judi (Tilcock) they met through a mutual friend in Coffeyville. James was working in Birmingham on the railroad. They made their home there for 6 years before returning to Edna, Kansas where they both retired. 

Beyond his professional achievements, James served his country with pride as a member of the Army and Air National Guard for 13 years in Arkansas. His service shaped his character, instilling in him values of honor and discipline that he carried through all aspects of his life.

Passionate about classic cars, James enjoyed restoring them and frequently entered car shows. His love for automobiles took him to shows all over, including distant travels as far as Florida, where he not only showcased his craftsmanship but also collected trophies for his efforts. These hobbies brought him joy and fulfillment, yet nothing compared to the time he cherished with his wife and family. Each day spent with them was, in his eyes, perfect.

James leaves behind his beloved wife, Judi Stallings; his son, Brent Stallings; his stepchildren, Amy Jones, Curtis Sandusky, and Casey Sandusky; grandchildren, Nolan Stallings, Sadie Aiken, Wesley Stallings, Jackson Stallings, step grandchildren Cami Bruner and Trey Bruner, his brother, Lester Stallings, and wife JoAnn; and his sister, Shelia Hay, and husband Jim. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Richard Stallings, and his step-grandson Chance Sandusky.

James Harold Stallings will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a skilled professional, and a passionate individual who found joy in both his hobbies and the company of his loved ones. His legacy of hard work, service, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Cremation will take place under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, and the family will hold services this summer at their annual 4th of July Birthday celebration for James.
