Jan E. Whittenburg, age 73, of Coffeyville passed away on November 5, 2016 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Jan was born in Coffeyville on March 4, 1943 to Gerald and Helen (Ferrell) Pierce. She was raised in Coffeyville where she attended and graduated from Field Kindley High School. After high school she found employment with various employers, Old Yellow Front, DV Deals Store, Dearing Drive In, and Walmart where she was promoted to department manager over the fabrics and worked in the bakery. On April 2, 1959 Jan was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Whittenburg, to this union the couple was blessed with three children.
Jan was a past 4-H leader, a member of the Renegades Primitive Club, and always enjoyed bowling in various leagues. Her favorite hobbies were quilting, crocheting, sewing, going to the movies with her friends, and her most favorite past time was her grandchildren. Jan was a people person, her laugh could be heard through all of Walmart, which was very contagious.
Left to honor her memory are, her husband, Jerry, son, Jerry Lee Whittenburg Jr his wife Marge, daughters, Donna Hannah her husband Matt, Rae Jean Westervelt her husband Brandon, brother, Ted Pierce his wife Phillis, sister, Martha Rae Lain, half-brothers, Jackie Pierce and Troy Pierce, grandchildren, Marsha and Doug McArthur, Crystal and Thomas Hensley, Bobi Lea Hannah, Frank and Laurinda Hannah, Nicholas, Evan, and Joel Westervelt, great-grandchildren, Courtney, Sydney, Xander, Abigal, Colton, and Jessica, numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and grandson Dale Hannah.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 3:00pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Tony Penn officiating. Interment will follow at Burial Lain Ground in rural Nowata County Oklahoma. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The family suggests memorials be made payable to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital and they may be left in care of the Chapel.
