Janet Kay Pinckney, 71, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Janet was born on December 12, 1943 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Emery and Catherine (Brady) Childress.
She grew up in Coffeyville where she received her high school education from Field Kindley Memorial High School. Janet also earned her Associates Degree at Coffeyville Community College.
On June 25, 1961 she married Larry Dewlen and of that union one child was born. The couple later divorced. On November 17, 1974 she married Michael Pinckney in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made Coffeyville their home. She and Michael had three children. He preceded her in death.
Janet worked with Michael operating a Bail Bonds company for many years. She also worked as a CSM at Wal-Mart for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, was a Girl Scout and 4-H member when she was younger, she enjoyed playing bingo, camping and reading and most of all attending her kids and grandkids sporting events. She loved the time she spent surrounded by her family and friends.
Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Kenneth Dewlen and wife, Michele of Boise, Idaho, Missy Bartholomew and husband, Russ of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Tiffany Augustine and husband, Kent of Independence, Kansas; grandchildren, Railyn Fleming and husband, Jeremiah of Overland Park, Kansas, Brad Dewlen, Jewlia Dewlen both of Boise, Idaho, Tabatha Martindale and husband, Niekko of Elk Grove, California, Calvin Bartholomew of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Gaberiell Augustine and Chet Augustine both of Independence, Kansas, Kelsey Pinckney; three great grandchildren; brother, Ron Childress and wife Kay of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister, Christy Hershey and husband, M.R. of Coffeyville, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; loving son Tommy Pinckney and by an infant sibling.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Dr. Wayne Norton will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made payable to the National Stroke Association 9707 E Easter Lane Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112 or to the American Diabetes Association; these may be left with the funeral home.
