Janice Elaine Thorley Withers 1933 2007 Janice Elaine Thorley Withers, 73, left this earth to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2007. She was born in Canton, Ohio on September 28, 1933 to Earl and Delores Fort Thorley. She was a 1951 graduate of McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio. After graduating high school, Janice moved to Los Angeles, California where she was employed by the L.A. Times. While living in LA she met Jerry Eugene Withers. They were married on February 7, 1954 in Las Vegas, Nevada and following their wedding they moved to Independence, Kansas where she became a homemaker. Janice was active in her four childrens activities, including the Dearing PTA, where she served in several capacities including President. She also was active in 4-H where she served as project leader for several years. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church Circle 4 for many years where she served as organizer for church wedding receptions and funeral dinners. She also helped her husband run the family dairy and farm. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Terri Lynn; her sister, Idola; two granddaughters and one great-grandson. She is survived by her husband of the home; sister, Virginia Beasley of Hesperia, CA; brother, James Thorley of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Raymond L. Withers and wife, Lisa, of Northwood, ND; daughters, Helen E. Rigdon, Jessica Trotter and husband, Randy, and Rosemary J. Sortore, all of Coffeyville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Withers will lie in state on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville. Recitation of the Rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Fr. Jerome Spexarth will be officiating. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexarth officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS. A memorial for Janice Withers has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and donations may be left at the funeral home.
