Janie Velma Gross Riley, died Sunday afternoon, February 9, 2014 at the Cordell Christian Home in Cordell OK, where she had been a resident since February 10, 2012.
Janie was born March 7, 1933 at Welch OK to Charley Lewis Gross and Maude Lester McPherson Gross. Janie graduated from Welch High School, Welch OK, in 1952. On June 19, 1954, Janie married William Wesley Wes Riley in Coffeyville KS. After many years of being a stay home wife and mother, Janie attended and graduated beauty school in Coffeyville in 1971. In 1972 Janies Beauty Salon, a six station salon, was named the most outstanding Beauty Salon in Kansas. Janie was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Coffeyville KS most of her adult live, was a Missionette leader 196874, and head of the Cradle Roll Nursery, 19591968, where she had 50 babies on the roll.
After many years as a beautician 197177 and traveling with her husband in his semi as a cross country trucker, Janie and family moved to the Tulsa area until 1993, where she retired. After moving back to Coffeyville for a short time, Janie moved to Cordell OK in 1996 to be near her daughter and family, and lived there until her death.
Janie was a member of the Washita County AARP in Cordell OK, for many years where she was the Vice President of the Chapter. During those years she won several awards for being a volunteer for AARP. Janie loved to fish and loved working in her yard, growing beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, 7 month, and 21 days, William Wesley Wes Riley, that stayed by her side until her death. Also survived is her daughter Debbie Riley Holland, of Cordell OK grandson Austin Holland, and his wife Madison, of Elk City OK grandson Daltin Holland, and his wife Lisa and greatgrandson Paytin Holland, all of Cordell OK one sister Johnie Peal Karnes, of Tulsa OK twin brother Charlie D. Gross, of Coos Bay OR youngest brother Larry Gross, and his wife Jean Ann, of Welch OK and many nieces and nephews.
Janie is preceded in death by her parents two sisters, Lula Jean Cooper, Tulsa OK and Charline Wilmoth, Tyro KS one brother Welborn Cotton Thompson, Vinita OK and soninlaw Anthony Holland, Cordell OK.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at FordWulfBruns Chapel with interment in Coffeyville Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of FordWulfBruns Chapel. Visitation will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 68 p.m.
