Jerry Gordon Dickson, 72, Independence, Kansas, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home of cancer. Jerry was born April 6, 1936 at Monticello, Arkansas to Joe Dickson and Meryl Scott Dickson. He graduated from Wilmar Arkansas High School in 1954 and attended Arkansas Aamp;M College in Monticello for two years. Jerry served in the Arkansas National Guard from March 1954 to March 1960 and then became a member of the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. He received an honorable discharge and the expert badge for U.S. Cal. 30, M-1 Rifle. On May 11, 1957, Jerry married Betty Moran at Warren, Arkansas. The couple left Arkansas in July 1960 in lived in Nebraska and Missouri before moving to Coffeyville, Kansas in April 1964. They moved to Route 2 Independence, Kansas in November 1966. Jerry went to work for Missouri Pacific in 1961 and retired in 1992. Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; four children, Greg Dickson and his wife, Brenda of Wann, Oklahoma, Jeff Dickson and his wife, Kelli of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Sheila Dickson of Jasper, Missouri and Gordon Dickson and his wife, Jerri of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; two brothers, Robert Dickson of Minden, Louisiana and Paul Dickson of Wilmar, Arkansas; three grandsons; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; two step-grandsons and two step-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel and private family services will be held later.
