Jerry Lee Whittenburg Sr., of Coffeyville, Kanas passed away at the age of 82, on October 30, 2021, surrounded by his family at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Jerry was born on October 21, 1939, in Dewey, OK to Percy James and Mary Luvena (Brown) Whittenburg. As a young boy he attended school in Coffeyville until his family moved to rural Wann, Oklahoma. On April 2, 1959, Jerry was united in marriage to Jan Eloise Pierce in Dearing, Kansas, of that union the couple was blessed with three children, Donna, Jerry, and Rae Jean.
Jerry worked for Sherwin Williams for 17 years prior to opening his own business; Jerry’s Radiator Repair Shop. Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, fishing most of all. He loved his family, his animals, and a good cup of coffee with peanut butter and cookies. He enjoyed talking and visiting with family especially sharing a good story that included either one of his horses or dogs. Jerry was a longtime member of the Renegade Free Trappers Primitive Weapons Club.
Jerry is now at rest with his parents, his wife Jan; brother, Perry Dean Whittenburg; grandson, Dale Hannah; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Whittenburg.
If man’s best friend could talk, his faithful companion, Sissy would share so many of Jerry’s stories. For now Jerry’s stories of days gone by will continue to be shared by his children, Donna (Matt) Hannah of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, Jerry Whittenburg Jr. and Rae Jean (Brandon) Westervelt both of Coffeyville, Kansas; sisters, Rosa Marie Watts of Nowata, Oklahoma, Barbara Stewart of Noxie, Oklahoma, Rita (Bill) Moore of Wann, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Martha Rae Lain of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Ted (Phyllis) Pierce of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Marsha (Doug) McArthur of Jay, Oklahoma, Crystal (Thomas ) Hensley of Oaks, Oklahoma, Bobi (Jeff) Hannah of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, Nicholas (Tatum) Westervelt, Evan Westervelt, Joel Westervelt, Frank (Larinda) Hannah all of Coffeyville, Kansas, Dale (Jenny) Hoggatt of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and Bill Hoggatt of Coffeyville, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Courtney Hensley, Sydney Hensley, Xander Bandy, Rhettleigh Westervelt, Roy Dale Hoggatt, Jessica Stapleton, Colton (Stephanie) Reel, Carson Reel-Hawk and Abbygail Turner; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry will be laid to rest next to his wife Jan at Lain Cemetery of rural Welch, Oklahoma 3 miles south of Veleda on Elk Road right on to Nation Road and back south on N424/423 Road 1.5 miles. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 1pm with Jamie Regis of Dearing Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 5pm to 7pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337 The family has suggested memorial contributions be made payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be left in care the chapel.
