Joan Robinson Cole 1927 - 2006 Joan Robinson Cole went home to be with her Lord April 12, 2006 in Topeka, Kansas. She was born June 15, 1927 around Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Her parents were Harry B. and Hazel Mae Hodges Robinson. She spent most of her childhood in Bartlesville but moved with her parents to Parsons In1944. She graduated from Parsons High School and Parsons Jr. College and then went on to Ottawa University where she graduated with a Bachelor in Music in 1951. She earned her Master of Science from Pittsburg State College in 1973. She went on to teach in Pomona and Princeton and then in Cherryvale, Fredonia and Coffeyville. She married Leon R. Cole May 27, 1956. Leon preceded her in death in 1991. Joan moved from Coffeyville to Topeka in July of 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Annette Norris and her husband Jay, grandchildren Lila Roth, Andrew and Nathaniel Norris and two great-grandchildren Aiden and Alyana, Cousins, Jack Brown, Larry Hodges, Merlin Hodges, Ellen Larson and Jim Hodges. Joan was a member of various organizations including the Lions Club, Coffeyville Stamp Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Red Hat Society of Atria. Right to the very end Joan was actively involved in her faith. She belonged to Baptist Churches in each city she lived in including First Baptist of Coffeyville and Gage Park Baptist in Topeka. For a time in Fredonia she directed the choir at the First Christian Church. She held various offices in American Baptist Women Crawford Association, First Baptist of Coffeyville ABW and the Scott Circle. She was involved and played the piano for St. James Methodist Church of Coffeyville and the First Baptist of Coffeyville, as well as for her friends at AtriaHearthstone. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m., April 17, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Coffeyville and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006, 9:30 a.m., at the Atria Hearthstone in Topeka, Kansas. Funeral Services are under the care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Memorial contributions may be made to various scholarship programs affiliated with American Baptist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ottawa University or Lions Club.
