Joan Colgin Stewart, 65, of rural Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joan was born February 18, 1944 at Iola, Kansas to Raymond Jackson and Bertha Colgin Jackson. She grew up in the Bronson area and attended country schools and Moran High School. On November 4, 1962, Joan married Gary Allen Stewart and the couple made their first home in Iola until 1964. The Stewarts then moved to Coffeyville, where they lived for six years, before moving to the Fawn Creek area. From 1988-1999, Joan owned and operated Fawn Creek Kennel. The Stewarts sold the kennel shortly after Garys retirement in order to spend time traveling together. Joan was a member of the AKC and Tyro Christian Church, Tyro, Kansas. She enjoyed growing flowers in her garden, fishing in the family pond and playing cards, especially a game she called31. Survivors are a son, Curtis Stewart and his fiance, Julie of Coffeyville; three brothers, Paul and Darrell Jackson, both of Mound City, Kansas and Leroy Jackson of Blue Mound, Kansas; four sisters, Marebelle Pruitt of Aurora, Colorado, Jesse Ross of Moran, Kansas, Evelyne Larkey of Chanute, Kansas and Valva Pearman of McPherson, Kansas; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Gary on January 19, 2005; by two brothers, Gilbert and Dorvan Jackson and by a sister, Verlen Frame. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. A committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon in the Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, Kansas, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
